Recycling of lithium-ion batteries
Spreewerk is your trusted partner in the recycling of lithium-ion batteries and part of the recycling cycle to fulfil the Green Deal.
Discharging
To minimise potential hazards and ensure safe handling of the batteries, large batteries in particular are safely discharged before the recycling process begins. This enables the subsequent dismantling of the batteries. We attach great importance to environmental protection and safety. Our experienced team carries out this process in accordance with the highest standards. The recovered electrical energy is fed into the power grid and reused within the company.
Disassembly
In order to treat large batteries in the thermal treatment plant at Spreewerk Lübben GmbH, the lithium-ion batteries are carefully dismantled after discharge. This step makes it possible to feed the recycling material into the thermal treatment process in the appropriate dimensions and to remove and recycle the housing and some electrical components in advance.
Thermal treatment
Thermal treatment is our core process in the recycling of lithium-ion batteries. The battery components are treated at defined temperatures in our recycling plant, electrolytes are neutralised and organic components are removed from the anode and cathode material. The recovery of valuable materials such as cobalt and nickel from the resulting active mass is facilitated and can be carried out in the subsequent processes with low energy consumption. Thanks to modern exhaust gas purification, thermal treatment contributes to the environmentally friendly reduction of battery waste and is an important part of the circular economy.
