General Atomics Europe and the Tauber Group have successfully developed a sustainable solution for the future of the Spreewerk in Lübben by working together closely. The excellent cooperation with the authorities and the constant support of the Brandenburg Ministry of Economic Affairs have made it possible to create a long-term perspective for the facility and its employees. This underlines the commitment to the region and the ability to successfully overcome complex challenges.
General Atomics Europe and the Tauber Group have also agreed to work together on a long-term basis in order to utilize the strengths of both companies. The Lübben site is also to be further developed.
Acquisition of the location
As part of this long-term solution, Spreewerk Lübben GmbH is pleased to announce the acquisition of the site in Lübben (Spreewald) by the Tauber Group on July 1, 2024. This prevents the impending closure of the site and all jobs will be saved. The site will return to its original business area of demilitarization. Tauber is acquiring the site along with its skilled employees and the company's many years of expertise and licenses.

A new company in the Tauber Group
Spreewerk Lübben Delaborierung GmbH, a new company of the Tauber Group, is now being established at the Lübben (Spreewald) site. With over 600 employees, Tauber is active in the fields of explosive ordnance clearance and civil engineering systems. With Spreewerk Lübben, the new owner is further expanding its business areas. "The disposal of munitions is an important component of explosive ordnance clearance. With the strategic decision to take over this site with its facilities and expertise, we will be able to further expand this segment in our service portfolio," says Jan-Bernd Kappelhoff, CEO of the Tauber Group.
The new owner values the good infrastructural conditions at the Spreewerk site as well as the many years of expertise and specialist knowledge of the company's employees in the treatment of dangerous materials. In addition, Spreewerk already has many of the necessary certifications for demilitarization.
This means that the traditional industrial site is being retained and the company is returning to its original business activities. The Spreewerk was founded in 1957 as VEB Spreewerk Lübben. During the time of the GDR, the company was initially active in the production of ammunition and later in the disposal of ammunition. In recent years, Spreewerk Lübben GmbH has been involved in the recycling of lithium-ion batteries and has thus developed a new business segment to make an important contribution to electromobility. The aquisition means that operations and the long history of Spreewerk can now be continued.
The employees currently working for Spreewerk Lübben GmbH at the Lübben (Spreewald) site will be transferred. In addition, there are already initial plans for the expansion of the site and the creation of new jobs.
Spreewerk Lübben GmbH will continue to exist as an independent company and will remain active in the storage and logistics of ammunition and other hazardous materials.
